To Start off my epic ski adventure in one of the most glorious snow paradises in the world, my luggage gets LOST by Alaska Airlines. They have NO clue what is going on. There was complications – we arrived in Seattle and we car loaded up to Canada 5 hours away. So the big question was when was my luggage with all my gear, snow clothes, camera equipment, soul going to arrive. It took four days. I was very upset but at some point you gotta accept it and move on. Fortunately we were traveling with a posey of friends so within the group all these wonderous folks they pulled their gear together so I hang on the mountain.
There’s nothing quite like going into the foggy abyss in a snow storm, off the edge of a mountain with two sticks strapped to your feet into the unknown. We would find they untouched canyons and parade down the fluffy goodness.
I was testing a new camera the Olympus OMD-5- I had 2 lenses with me the 17mm and the 70m. I wanted a camera that was light weight, that I could take on the mountain and take epic images with. The dynamic range with this camera is new to its time. I loved the ease of touch focusing especially in the cold with big bulky gloves. It honestly made photography a lot more fun. Usually you have to lug all this crap around that weighs you down. This camera is not an action camera in any stretch of the imagination. Whats also nice about this camera is people are not intimidated by it. So you can whip it out without folks noticing or being awkward. It’s almost like being under cover. Honestly lugging heavy camera gear around kills the romance. Its strange I could be traveling with my regular camera and of course i’m going to need several lens options and what if I want to light or a tripod. Then when I’m on location- I don’t “feel like it” to pull the stuff out. It probably has to do with the fact that this is what I do for a living. Massage therapist don’t want to give their significant others massages after a day of work. The point of the matter- having the smaller camera made it much more fun.
